App Conference and Hackathon, took place October 26-27, 2011 in Santa Clara, CA. It addressed key components of app development, marketing and revenue on mobile devices and tablets. With an emphasis on cross platform development and revenue strategies, the show provides key insight for both developers and business professionals.

In this presentation, Jeannie Yang – VP of Product Alchemy, Smule at Smule, discusses Smule’s product development process as well as creating and designing a successful social application that fosters organic connections and communities from UI to launch. Smule is the creator of the popular I Am T-Pain, Magic Piano, Magic Fiddle, Ocarina and Glee Karaoke apps. The company’s apps not only enable music creation but allow users to showcase their talent on a world stage and connect anonymously with other musical mavens from around the globe.

 

Dion Almaer, VP Mobile Architecture, Walmart.com discusses Web vs. Apps in his App Conference keynote.

 

In this video, Donna Friedman Meir, Chief Innovation Officer at Insight Research Group, takes you on a deep-dive into the developmental, social and cultural drivers that influence the media habits of kids at ages four, seven and 11.

Jennifer Wells – Senior Manager, Game and App Publishing, PBS talks about how PBS plans to educate and entertain the nation’s kids in the mobile space at our App Conference held last month in Santa Clara. Jennifer covers how PBS approaches mobile game design for kids, where they’re at in the digital space now, and how the plan on continuing to innovate. This session was a part of the Kidscreen’s iKids Summit @ App Conference. This session is produced in partnership with Kidscreen, the leading international trade publication serving the informational needs and interests of kids entertainment professionals.

 

In this video, Yuanzhe (Michael) Cai – VP, Games and Technology, Interpret LLC is going to present a few data points on the state of mobile gaming. Yuanzhe’s presentation will compare mobile platforms for gaming, iPhone vs Android gamers, and the growth of the iPad in mobile gaming. In this video from App Developers Conference, David Gill – VP, Mobile Media and Marketing , The Nielsen Company is going to give you some insight into how mobile devices are defining how consumers shop and buy.

In this presentation, Yannis Dosios, VP of Flurry Network at Flurry, Inc is going to give you some insight into the latest trends and market research in the mobile arena.

His presentation will focus around three main topics:
- Mobile devices have become smarter and more pervasive
- Explosion of mobile app content
- Promising monetization capabilities

We are pleased to announce the winners of the of the App Dev Hackathon in Santa Clara which took place on Oct 27th. Congratulations to the winners and everyone who participated. The App Dev Hackathon is for developers working on mobile apps. Developers learned new skills, built mobile apps, competed for prizes and met people. Not your traditional hack, AppDev Hackathon featured hands on training classes on the latest technologies and trends that can help developers build better apps. View the winners here.

With 500 people registered for the conference and an additional 400 registered for the Hackathon on Thursday, Oct. 27th, App Conference provides amazing content and networking between knowledge experts throughout the app ecosystem.

 

Still debating whether to attend the App Conference?  Apple released these stats on Tuesday with the launch of the iPhone 4S:

  • 1 billion apps are downloaded on the Apple app store every month.
  • 18 billion apps have been download in the past three years.
  • Apple has paid $3 billion to its app partners.
  • Apple has sold more than 250 million iOS devices
  • There are 500,000 apps in the app store. 140,000 of them are iPad apps.
